”শহীদ আসাদ দিবস” পালিত হয় ২০ জানুয়ারি।
গণঅভ্যুত্থানের প্রথম শহীদ হলেন ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আইন বিভাগের ছাত্র আসাদ। ২০ জানুয়ারি ১৯৬৯ সালে পুলিশের গুলিতে তিনি শহীদ হন। আসাদের স্মরণে ঢাকার মোহাম্মদপুরে 'আইয়ুব গেট' এর পরিবর্তে 'আসাদ গেট' নামকরণ করা হয়।
